If you want to do something different, I’m going to bet there are a lot of people that don’t support you. If that’s the case its okay, most of the time they are doing it because they want what’s best for you and they can’t see the bigger picture like you and I can. My family comes from Punjab, India where entrepreneurship is very limited so my family didn’t understand my goals and dreams. I remember asking my mom what would she prefer, me a poor doctor or a rich CEO. And guess which she picked? A poor doctor because being a doctor brings a level of prestige to the family. Not having support from your family can really slow some people down, but for me it was motivation. My goal was to prove my parents wrong and it kept me going day after day. But it’s not easy living with tension amongst your family and friends. I’m not advocating lying, but find a way to follow your family’s wishes while doing what you want. I started and ran some pretty successful businesses without my parents ever finding out and I did this while going to college. I was able to keep my parents happy while working on my dreams. Is there a way you can keep your family happy while working on your goals. Yeah it’s hard and yeah it requires more work, but it can help keep peace in your family and you can use their doubts as motivation because when the people closest to you don’t think you can succeed, phew you’ll want to prove them wrong. When my parents saw my business being featured on TV, on the radio, in the newspaper, and in magazines, that’s when they realized they’re crazy son might actually have some potential. They still didn’t fully accept the whole idea but they became more open to it and said I should go to law school instead of medical school. So if you’re being doubted, just remember you’re not the only one in that position. Many people with the minority mindset are going through the exact same thing. But try to find a way to keep the people closest to you happy while working on your dreams. Because the truth it, it’s fun to prove people wrong.
